Work and think like a SAFe Scrum Master
In this two-day course, you will gain an understanding of the role of a Scrum Master in a SAFe enterprise. Unlike traditional Scrum Master training that focuses on the fundamentals of team-level Scrum, the SAFe course explores the role of the Scrum Master in the context of the entire enterprise, and prepares attendees to successfully plan and execute the Program Increment (PI), the primary enabler of alignment throughout all levels of a SAFe organization. This includes learning the key components of Agile at scale development, how Scrum is facilitated throughout the enterprise, and how to execute Iteration Planning.
Attendees will also discover how to build high performing Agile teams by becoming a servant leader and coach, and how to coach those teams to deliver the maximum business value at scale.
SAFe 4 Scrum Master (SSM) certification signifies that people are prepared to perform the role in a SAFe environment, increasing their value to teams and organizations that are implementing SAFe.
During this two-day course you will learn to:
- Describe Scrum in a SAFe enterprise
- Facilitate Scrum events
- Facilitate effective Iteration execution
- Support effective Program Increment execution
- Support relentless improvement
- Coach Agile teams for maximum business results
- Support DevOps implementation
Attendees who pass the exam will receive:
- SAFe Scrum Master certificate
- A SAFe 4 Scrum Master digital badge to promote your accomplishment online
- A one-year certified membership as a SAFe Scrum Master, which includes access to the SSM Community of Practice
- A SAFe Scrum Master certification usage guide with SSM certification marks
- Access to a variety of learning resources to support certified professionals during their SAFe journey

Not well organized

It was a really good training with the right balance between theory presentations (slide decks) and discussions amongst Scrum Masters about the issues we face and (possible) solutions and how SAFe will change the way of working. The only thing that could be improved in my opinion is to know a bit longer beforehand when the training will be. I had trouble clearing my agenda for two full days just two weeks in advance
Maxime Delhorme - Review: 8/10
I think the training should include people with the same level in SAFE. In our training people working with SAFE and people learning about it were mixed which ended up in misalignment in the expectations from this course from the participants. Also it would have been better if the course was the two days in Koningshof instead of being hosted on ASML campus.
Elpiniki Mylona - Review: 8/10
Good coverage of the theory, and good replication of a PI event Improvements - Less scrum theory people who join the training have already relevant background - More excercises with questions and answers.

we have given some feedback to the trainer already, please follow up with him. What I would improve: 1. the course materials appeared outdated? OR at least not in sync with the trainer presentations. Which is not ok really as that limits our chance to make proper notes. Can we please get the up to date paper booklets as the right ones have not been provided by you during the course? 2. I would pay much more attention to the venue, the meeting room (during the 2nd day) was far too small and not adjusted to the 'agile' type of course (it's just a standard meeting room, so we did have issues to walk freely and work within formed groups) 3. the training was just a bit chaotic, it was hard to understand what the exercise was about and why do we need to do it. 4. I would expect any lunch arrangements to be provided (talking about the 2nd day) Things I like: 1. I do appreciate that we went through the basics of SAFE, as the course audience did differ in terms of SAFE experience. I have not worked with SAFE yet. 2. The trainer was giving good hints on how to deal with/solve certain situation (based on the provided ‘life’ examples)

I think the content of SAFe is practical and useful. The hotel where the training was held was great. I think the practice exam was useful and the exam was fair. The information about the exam beforehand was sufficient for me to know what to expect. My only major problem with this course was that I felt the teacher was not familiar with how software development works and how the SAFe and Scrum Master concepts are applied in real life. Being a Software Engineer/Scrum Master, this was a big problem for me because I really needed some professional guidance.
Marthijn Langenkamp - Review: 10/10
The trainers were very good. Quiet in explaining the substance. Tip: use more flipcharts and draw what you mean. The planning and accommodation were excellent. The parking, facility, eating with each other (both internally and externally), the drinks at Wednesday, etc. was outstanding!!!
Gisele De Oliveira soto - Review: 9/10
I liked the methodology and the trainers were really prepared.
Frank Wijnands - Review: 8/10
Both trainers (Marijt day 1, Niels day 2) lead us through the training material well. Niels put the material more in the bigger picture (esp. as we had to recap the day 1 material because of the 2week gap between day 1 and day 2. Location of day 2 was much better than day 1 (day 2 was in Agile workspace, this was inspiring and close to the heart of the course and the setting of the room was better, inspired more to be interactive rather than classroom style at Boschdijk).
Petra Funk - Review: 8/10
The size of the group (5 plus instructor) was helpful for learning and discussions The backgrounds of the participants together with the contents allowed for a good mix of new Knowledge and experience form practice The instructor was new to this course, but he was well-prepared, open and very knowledgable. Finally the location was inspiring and helpful. only room temperature was a Little high, due to the warm weather
Eveline Sintnicolaas - Review: 7/10
I very much enjoyed the setting of the training, size of the group, and variety of theory and exercises. It was my first experience with SAFe. I do not have any practical background. The first day was a bit overwhelming, a lot of information and I found the SAFe framework very dry and hard to understand. The second day was an eye opener, most of the things felt into place and it was great fun playing the Mondriaan game. It would have been nice if there were some more cases to create more understanding of the theory into practice.
Navin Balini - Review: 7/10
I liked the content. However the course was too fast paced.
Andries Hettema - Review: 9/10
I liked the way the trainer approached the training by really trying to check what the group needed and using that as a starting point. There was a good time spend in exercises and interactions. Where the sheets were supporting but nog leading the meeting. Too bad the Kahoot connection was lost halfway the test.
Svetoslav Pavlov - Review: 9/10
I like the approach and proffesionallity of the trainer. As we (ASML) already started to apply SAFe, I would expect some relation to the current ASML experience.
Rafael Campos - Review: 7/10
There is a lot of material to cover in 4 days. Some subjects are not discussed in enough detail
Jochem Kempkens - Review: 8/10
Clear explanation, though two days is not enough to really cover to topis, oincluding the excercices.
Cristian Ionita - Review: 8/10
During the course I would have liked to see how the SAFe theory will tailor ASML's organization and what are the deviations. One negative aspect was that the training has been rescheduled on a very short notice, without providing a replacement trainer. This had impact on some external parties which already arranged business trips.
Linda Janssens - Review: 7/10
Like the content of the course Suggest to do an inventory or test to know the level of the participants. I had no fundamental info at all, so for me to much in a to short period. The material of the guideline is confusing
Jeroen de Moor - Review: 8/10
I liked the approach. As mentioned it is difficult to fit a change of mind/culture experience into a 2-day foundation training. Like for instance the LEAN advanced training is 5 days, where for most participants it takes at least 3 days to understand and change the mindset. Maybe only feedback is to set some pretesting and requirement to pass the practice exam. I also noticed that quite some partipants' knowledge was quite poor and a too much time was also spend at discussing the validity of the SAFe Framework by specific participants. At some point the trainer in my opinion could have noticed that the change-adaptiveness of 1 or 2 more senior participants was significantly slowing down the learning curve for the others on day-2.
Frank Wittenberg - Review: 9/10
Liked it that we were pulled out of our comfort zone.
Giuseppe Devincenti - Review: 8/10
Very positive: Very engaged trainer. Positive: Lots of vital and hands-on info on Agile and Safe for a Scrum Master Less positive: insfficient time for workshops. Negative: None
Jan Pannecoeck - Review: 9/10
I liked the good approach from the trainer. We were a very small group (5 participants) which made it really difficult to do the described exercises of the book. But nevertheless, the trainer managed to keep it interesting. Location and planning was really good.
Ronald Plantinga - Review: 8/10
Good training and trainer. Due to small group (only 5) the work exercises were somewhat sub-optimal, and hence the learning from these. Also would recommend some more use of diverse media (eg short videos, websites, etc.) on a next occasion.
Marjolein van der Zwaag - Review: 8/10
- Content. Interesting and presented at a very logical way. But a large part is very theoretical and so I do not understand why this is all taught via a classroom training. The story could also have been presented via online learning or via book/ tutorial orso as it is very intuitive material. Then the classroom time can be more effectively and valuable used to summarize learnings, let people ask questions and share/ discuss experiences, and get hands on experience via e.g., more exercises such as the online bookstore example we did with groups. These were very helpful. - Content: scrum is about dealing with people. But in the course this part was only very briefly touched upon at the end. Maybe this could also be more elaborated. - Trainers. Great trainer. Really knew what he was talking about and could rapidly respond to all questions. - Planning + location: ok.
Gavin Mulcahy - Review: 10/10
I thought the course was excellent. It was clear that the presenter took the time to evaluate the level of experience in the room and focused the delivery accordingly. It was not a procession of slides and the pace was well judged. It was supported well across the team logistically, ensuring a plentiful supply of coffee and snacks at the right time to keep concentration levels up. Well done all!
Wouter Trumpie - Review: 9/10
Liked the interactivity and the exercises to get a tangible feel for what it means to work in an Agile / SAFe environment. The Agile Coaching part seemed a bit rushed, but I guess that is what happens if it is the last part of the training. Perhaps it would be valuable to move this more to the beginning of the training, e.g. beginning of Day 2 or end of Day 1.
Peter Geurtsen - Review: 8/10
The level of expectation concerning the content of SAFE itself was higher; however the course itself was given above my expectation; due to the course lead
Rudi Blok - Review: 8/10
- Good to go through the SAFe framework for understanding. - Expected more information how a scrum master operates in the bigger picture: how to align with other scrum masters, to what extend should you prepare for the Release Planning event.
Wendy Yu - Review: 8/10
From this course, let me get more knowledge about scrum master, the content for the course is comprehensive; the trainer used a vivid traning way to help us to understand. But I think still need more practical operate to hlep us dealing with the problem met during the work.
Steven Zhou - Review: 8/10
I like the trainer who is very experienced guy and I asked serverial practical question and get the nice answer! I would say the two days training is still two short for understand the total SAFe 4.0. lot of key point have to be skipped due to time limitation. If next time, I would suggest at least for 3 or 4 days training.
Tony Li - Review: 8/10
Experienced and insightful trainer. Solid exercises to simulate scrum team working.
Steve Jiang - Review: 7/10
it would be good to have more case study.
Jerry Jiang - Review: 8/10
The trainer use interactive way to communicate the contents, which is very good. He lead us to simulate the real situation of product development, and showed how to handle the difficult tasks
Frank Barner - Review: 8/10
Training was a good experience, infrastructure was ok, catering good
Paul Rours - Review: 8/10
I liked the stories of the actual experiences with clients. Real life examples. As an experienced Scrum Master the first day didn't hold many secrets or suprises. The second day, starting with the simulation, was really on SAFE for me. For me we could have elaborated some more on the SAFE caracteristics.
Youandi Kasman - Review: 9/10
I liked the location en overall organisation of the course. The students were well taken care of. The teacher was enthousiastic and very knowledgeable. It's a shame he did not receive the pre-course assessments in which each student stated what their learning goal was, so for me, my learning goal was not met completely. I would have liked to talk about our goals for the course a bit more. The cases we had to execute were effective, but due time constraints, we could not really practice on the skills. We only scratched the surface of what a Scrum Master does within SAFe.
Veronica Frias - Review: 9/10
What I like the most is that it was very practical and with very good real cases insights. Time was too tight to cover the final part of the training.
