Question

What to do if discussions drag on and become too long?

Answer

People like talking about their work, their effort and what they believe in, which can sometimes lead to the side effect of discussions starting to drag.

When you notice people are no longer engaged, you want to consider the following:

  • Make sure you break up the work into smaller chunks. This way it’s easier to stay on track of the agenda
  • Either summarize points yourself or ask others to summarize their stories.
  • Work with visual aids, or even better, ask the participants themselves to work with visual aids.
  • Referring to the parking lot mentioned above is a solution once the conversation is no longer productive
